👋 I am a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering and a Data Science Postdoctoral Fellow at the eScience Institute, University of Washington. I earned my PhD in Computer and Information Science and Engineering from Syracuse University. I was recognized as a Rising Star in EECS by MIT (2024) and as a Rising Star in Data Science by UCSD, UChicago, and Stanford (2024).

I will be joining the Department of Computer Science at Boise State University as an Assistant Professor starting in Fall 2025. My lab will offer fully funded PhD positions and welcome students at all levels. My research aims to develop novel and practical methods in machine learning, data science, and human-AI interaction to learn and infer from complex data while remaining trustworthy and ultimately empowering people. Current interests include (but are not limited to):

My research has been published in journals like CSUR (impact factor: 23.8) and conferences including WWW, CHI, KDD, CIKM, WSDM, and ICWSM, with 5000+ citations. It has been featured in the ACM Showcase and media outlets such as Psychology Today. As a (Co-)PI, I have received funding from the UW Allen School, Population Health Initiative, Garvey Institute for Brain Health Solutions, and Center for an Informed Public. I also regularly serve on program committees for conferences such as KDD, AAAI, SIGIR, WSDM, and CIKM, and review for journals including CSUR, TKDE, TOIS, TIFS, TMM, and TWEB.

I am fortunate to work with talented people across academia and industry, from whom I’ve learned not only their warmth and charm but also their vision and philosophies on life, work, leadership, and supporting students. As a way to give back, I’m dedicating 30 minutes each week to connect with and mentor junior researchers and students at all levels. I had a rabbit named Maodu (毛肚), who became part of our family before I came to study in the US. She crossed the rainbow bridge when she was seven. I have a six-year-old cat named Pumpkin living with me. I'm also learning how to raise dogs and plan to welcome a Westie named Funding into my life soon.
